We are looking to recruit an experienced and self-motivated individual to work in Professor Neil Kad's laboratory. This project aims to understand how muscle is activated by using state-of-the-art single molecule imaging techniques. You will be involved in developing and implementing new techniques to provide a molecular level view of how the motor proteins in muscle are activated by calcium and how this is transmitted within the highly organised matrix of the sarcomere. You will be part of a group that is investigating the process of contraction at many levels, with an aim to having a real impact on skeletal and cardiac diseases. This project will involve single molecule imaging, analysis, some instrument development and molecular biology; for all aspects there is expertise present and training will be given.
The applicant will require a PhD or equivalent in an appropriate field, have the ability to undertake research, efficiently, creatively and collegially. They will possess strong oral communication skills and be highly self- motivated.
The appointee will be based within the School of Biosciences and will deliver research based activities of a high standard, contribute to the development of the project and in achieving key milestones, contribute to the dissemination of research results through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations as well as other duties assigned by Professor Kad.
The successful candidate will have/be:
a PhD degree or equivalent in relevant scientific discipline (or to be in the final stages of obtaining such a qualification)
experience in microscopy
proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner
excellent oral and written communication skills.
